THE town mayor of Keighley has opened the annual art exhibition at Cliffe Castle Museum.

Councillor Mohammed Nazam formally launched the exhibits on July 22. The display runs until November 8 of this year.

The neighbouring art groups, Keighley Art Club and Bingley Art Society, created 100 items for the exhibition, ranging from portraits of people and animals to landscapes, in a variety of media.

Both community groups encourage new styles to develop drawing and painting skills.

For the first time, Kirsty Gaskin, of Cliffe Castle Museum, has established a special feature for children which encourages them to look out for particular objects in the paintings.

She said: “100 items is a record, and I hope the children will enjoy the new feature."

Cllr Nazam: “This is the first time I have opened an art exhibition and I hope to build on this experience in future."

Most of the original works are for sale.
