THE LIVE band of KYDZ Keighley Youth Theatre are striking out on their own with a concert of 50s and 60s classics.

The band of local rock musicians, going by the name Retro Echo, will perform A Musical Time Machine at Oakworth Methodist Church on September 2.

Audience members are invited to wear retro fancy dress, with prizes for best costumes and best jive dancers.

Proceeds will be shared between KYDZ and the church’s Mission Possible fund which aims to provide extra meeting space, storage and theatre facilities in the building.

The band began life more than 40 years ago with the musicians providing live music for nationally-renowned Keighley youth theatre HYT.

When HYT folded after three decades the musicians continued providing live music for its successor, KYDZ, then based at the now-abolished Brontë Middle School.

The line-up includes Derek Arnold, one of the band’s original members in the 1970s, and Dennis Stockden who joined a few years later.

In the past couple of years the band has not played for all KYDZ shows due to illness and difficulties completing the line-up, but the band were keen to step out again on stage so came up with the idea for a concert.
