NICKY Burrows will play the title role in a local revival of classic musical My Fair Lady.

Keighley Musical Theatre Company, former Keighley Amateurs, have chosen the actress to play Eliza Doolittle in the popular show.

She will play the Cockney flower girl plucked from the East End by an English professor to be transformed into a lady.

Mark Rundle plays the notorious professor, Henry Higgins, who has a bet with a friend that he can pass off the commoner as an aristocrat.

The pair are supported by David Brett as Colonel Pickering, Jonathan Tate as Alfred P Doolittle, Katharine Hickman as Mrs Pearce, Reece Raymond as Freddy Eynsford-Hill, Louise Barton as Mrs Higgins and Debbie Ellison as Mrs Eynsford-Hill. A 35-strong ensemble and dance group will provide the raucous Covent Garden characters and the refined aristocrats, who perform the big set piece numbers.

Director is Kevin Moore and choreographer is Judith Chapman, and a full 17-piece orchestra – led by John Sandland – will play the enchanting score.

Songs will include Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, With A Little Bit Of Luck, The Rain In Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, On The Street Where You Live, Get Me To The Church On Time and I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face.

Lerner and Loewe’s award-winning story was a huge success on Broadway, collecting six Tony awards, and the film version took home eight Oscars, including Best Picture.

Louise Barton, chairman of Keighley Musical Theatre Company, said: “We are delighted to be performing this magnificent musical. We can promise the audience an enthralling night out at the theatre!”

My Fair Lady is at Victoria Hall from October 18 to 21 at 7.15pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm. Visit keighleymtc.com for tickets.
