IRISH singer-songwriter Colum Sands is returning to Keighley to cast his spell once again.

Regulars at the Baccapipes Folk Club are looking forward to Colum’s performance on Friday, September 22 after 8pm.

He is one of this autumn’s headliners at the club’s Friday evening sessions at the Ukrainian Club at 9 Henry Street, off Cavendish Street.

Val Marsden and Graham Pirt promise harmony singing at its very best on October 13.

Pete Coe, a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and pillar of the west Yorkshire folk scene, returns on October 27.

There’ll be a Celtic night on November 10 courtesy of Roisin Ban, a Yorkshire-based group specialising in songs and tunes from Ireland, Scotland, England and Brittany.

Matt Quinn, part of the ‘second-generation’ of folk performers, will take his huge voice and big presence to the Baccapipes on November 24.

Other Fridays will be singers nights, when any singer or musician can perform, and everyone is welcome at any Baccapipes session.

The autumn programme for the Baccapipes is publicised in the latest issue of quarterly Yorkshire folk magazine Tykes’ News.

The Keighley-based magazine lists hundreds of performances coming up throughout the season, along with club and performer news and reviews.

The magazine has features on Cleckheaton Folk Festival, Fairport Convention’s 50th birthday, the Heathen Kings and the Young ‘Uns.

There is a report on a special performance at Jumbo Records in Leeds by award-winning folk artist Martha Tilston, daughter of renowned singer-songwriter and former Keighley resident Steve Tilston.

She performed a song in tribute to her stepmother, the late Keighley singer and musician Maggie Boyle, who she said was, “the reason I’m a singer”.

Tykes reveals that Skipton Folk Unplugged, at the Narrow Boat Inn in Victoria Street, will feature a performance by Keighley duo Alan Rose and Lynda Hardcastle on November 6.

The Tykes listing highlights performances at Bradford’s Topic Club by The Mild Roses (October 19), Cheshire singer-songwriter Chloe Jones (October 26), shanty group Kimber’s Men (November 16) and Northern Ireland duo Fil Campbell and Tom McFarland (November 23).
