HAWORTH Storytellers will welcome the Travelling Talesman with haunting tales and hand-cranked horror.

Haworth Open Storytellers are hosting a special Halloween gathering with Cliff Easterbrook, alias the Travelling Talesman, on October 23.

The group meet regularly in the back room at the Haworth Old Hall Inn, on Sun Street, to tell tales and share stories.

Cliff, who has more than 20 years’ experience as a storyteller in pubs and art venues, will visit the Old Hall at 7.30pm for the adult show.

Haworth Open Storytellers spokesman Adam Sargant said Cliff’s autumn tour was entitled Haunted and featured ghastly ghost stories.

Adam said: “As well as the storytelling that is the heart of the show, the Talesman often uses interesting instruments and acoustic props.

“This year he will add atmosphere and underscore with some ‘hand-cranked horror’, a couple of fascinating acoustic, Heath-Robinson-meets-steampunk, acoustic sound machines.”

Cliff’s previous autumn tours have focused on witches, ghouls, shape-shifters and other dark and gruesome motifs, while his spring tours are a chance to deal with lighter topics and broader mythology.

Adam added: “Haunted is a collection of ghost stories carefully selected to have a plot that goes beyond ‘We saw a ghost... and then we found out somebody had died!’.

“There will of course be plenty of creaking, howling wind, and people unnecessarily wandering about alone in the dark.

Admission to the October 23 performance is free, but a hat will be passed round to help support the artist.
