A CATTLE market will become a convent as Sister Act The Musical is performed in Skipton.

Skipton Musical Theatre Company will present the fun musical every evening from October 26 to 28 at the town’s Mart Theatre.

There will also be a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.

When aspiring night club singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses her boyfriend Curtis kill one of his cronies her only option is to seek sanctuary in a convent.

At first, Deloris feels as though it will be the worst thing in the world, chafing against the constraints of convent life and an immovable Reverend Mother, but once she is introduced to the struggling choir, everything changes.

She finds that many of the nuns are not that different from her, and that they are quite fun to be around.

They help give her a bigger purpose in her life, showing her a genuine love and affection that was missing prior to her arrival.

A spokesman said: “Sister Act is a joyous show that uses music to bring different communities, and lifestyles, together.

“Based on the successful Whoopi Goldberg film, the show has been described as ‘a heavenly hit’ and ‘a divine musical comedy’.”
