SUTTON teenager Callum Spencer follows up last weekend’s release of his debut single with a gig on Friday, October 27.
The 18-year-old acoustic guitarist, singer and songwriter will share the stage at Keighley’s Exchange Arts Centre with Kell and Hoamin.
The audience will get a chance to hear The Fence, the song he launched on October 21 with a gig at the Cork and Bottle in Skipton
Callum recently finished school and decided that instead of going to university, he would try to pursue a career as a musician.
He said: “I have been gigging in bars, weddings and private events for the past three years and recently returned from playing on a ship around Europe.
“I was contacted by the cruise company and flown out the next day to play for three weeks to often 400-strong audiences.”
Callum started in music at the age of 15 after quitting his job as a paperboy for a post office, preferring to busk in Skipton.
He said: “After a few months of playing to small crowds of tourists in the street I began to get bookings from local bars and was soon digging at least twice a week.
“Since then I have continued to write and record music whilst earning a living by playing various gigs and small festivals.”
Callum said he was very happy with The Fence turned out after he and producer/sound engineer Kurt Wood worked in the studio together for more than 15 hours.
Callum will be at the Exchange, in Russell Street, on Friday supporting Kell, a psychedelic indie outfit from Leeds who are similar to bands such as Daughter, Warpaint and Tame Impala.
Also playing support will be Hoamin who promise “a thick cloak of gut-wrenching noise-folk woven in Bradford’s mighty basin”.
Visit exchangearts.co.uk for tickets, which cost £4. They cost £5 on the door.
The Fence can be heard on iTunes and Spotify.
