PRE-SCHOOL children in Keighley can go out in the open air at a new play and learning club.

Out In The Aire will lead the Forest School activities every Wednesday at Woodville Activity Centre near Cliffe Castle Park.

Out In The Aire, run by sisters Viky Sutcliffe and Bethan Searcey, provide fun outdoor learning sessions in woods and parks across Bradford district for ages two to five.

Viki said: “Our sessions build children’s confidence, social skills, communication, physical skills, knowledge, understanding motivation and concentration.

“We do this by allowing the children to explore their environment on their own or with others, taking risks to achieve their desired outcomes in safe ways.”

Bethan and Viky set up Out In The Aire Forest School and Outdoor Education last year with aim of “building a better future for young people across Bradford on the Aire Valley”.

They currently run several weekly and fortnightly sessions for two to five-year-olds along with family events at certain times of the year.

Bethan is described as an enthusiastic and creative early years educator with 11 years’ experience working in different educational settings.

While at college and university she volunteered in different primary schools working with children aged between five and 11.

Viki said: “Once graduating university, Bethan found her passion for working in early years and has been following this passion for the last five years.”

Viky is a Level 3 Forest School Practitioner with a background in environmental conservation.

She spent ten years of working and volunteering with local community groups and environmental projects including Bradford Environmental Action Trust.

Viky said that at this time, she was eager to eager to train so she could empower children and adults through outdoor learning and Forest School.

She completed her Forest School Award in 2015.

The Wednesday sessions begin on November 1 and will run from 10am to noon at Woodville Activity Centre on Woodville Road, off Spring Gardens Lane.

Sessions will take place in a small secure woodland and will involve a mix of games, hands-on experiences, adventures and storytelling.

Parents of under-threes need to stay with their children, but parents of older children can leave them with leaders.

Vicky said: “Each session helps to support social, emotional, physical, linguistic and cognitive learning through teamwork, risk-taking and problem-solving activities.

Visit outintheaire.co.uk for further information. The first session is free, then the cost is £25 for five sessions.
