CIRCUS Starr is returning to Silsden with its inclusive show for disabled and disadvantaged local children.

The touring Big Top show will be at the town’s car boot site at Low Woodside Farm, on April 27, for shows at 4.45pm and 7pm.

Circus Starr, a social enterprise, has been touring for more than 30 years, providing free tickets to people in local communities, with the costs covered by donations from local businesses.

In Silsden, Circus Starr anticipates performing to 1,000 local children and their carers who are often excluded from such events because of their needs and circumstances.

Michelle Crossley, one of the directors of Circus Starr, said the audience would see everything they could expect of the traditional Big Top spectacle, such as energetic acrobats, daring aerialists and a very mischievous clown, but it was the audience that set the show apart.

She said: “The barriers families face to accessing creative and cultural activities are many and varied. Some families simply can’t afford or have a child with a disability whose needs aren’t being met elsewhere.

“The atmosphere in our Big Top is warm, friendly and extremely relaxed. Children are encouraged to be themselves – shout out, move around, dance or take time out if they need to. We’re officially a tut-free zone!

“Tickets are funded by local businesses looking to give back to the most over-looked in their communities and are pre-allocated to families who struggle to go to or enjoy a live performance.” Anyone wishing to sponsor Circus Starr or find out about tickets should call 01260 288690 or email rachel@circus-starr.org.uk.
