BLUES fans are in for a treat this month with two gigs in one weekend organised by Ben Blue Waters.

Ben’s monthly Blues & Roots night at the Black Bull, Haworth, will feature a newly-formed ‘supergroup’ along with well-known local singer-songwriters John Harvison and Johnny B.

Two days before that there will be a special gig at the Exchange Arts Centre, Russell Street, Keighley, aimed at blues and rock fans.

Ben said the March 13 gig at the Exchange would feature two of the region’s most popular solo blues artists and a top-notch 60s blues/rock covers band.

He said: “Timewarp are a-band of experienced musicians, playing rock and blues classics from the 50s and 60s.

“The Ilkley-based band have performed hundreds of gigs at over 150 venues and performed at the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool.

“Expect rocking versions of songs by Elvis Presley, Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and many others."

Also on the bill will be Bradford’s Sleepy Jake Segrave, aged 20, who plays country blues with the assurance and passion of a veteran bluesman and sings with an authentic gravelly voice.

Advance tickets costing £5 are available from the Musicians Centre in Russell Street, Keighley, or for £6 on the door.

Meanwhile on March 15, the Black Bull’s Blues & Roots night features the first public performance by Sheila McFarlane, Gerry Cooper and Pete Taylor together as supergroup Bessie's Blues.

Ben said: “Three well established and highly respected musicians have come together to perform the songs of the female pioneers of the blues such as Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie and Ida Cox.”

Also on the bill will be popular Keighley singer-songwriter Johnny B who delivers heartfelt emotional songs in a unique gruff vocal style, and folk singer-songwriter Jon Harvison who is renowned for a rich, powerful voice, a tasty guitar technique and brilliant original songs.

Ben will also be performing his foot-stomping slide guitar blues at both gigs.

Ben plays classic blues songs from the 1920s to the present day, including material by blues legends such as Son House, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
