FORMER Keighley man Gary Kaye is among performers at the Victorian Folk Extravaganza in Otley.

He will share the stage with well-known regional acts Bella Gaffney, the Jon Palmer Acoustic Band and Yan Tan Tether.

Singer-songwriter Gary, who now lives in Horsforth, is the organiser of the event on December 3 at Otley Courthouse.

Gary said the Extravaganza would bring together some of Yorkshire’s finest folk talent for an evening of seasonal song and merry musings.

He wanted to host a live music event to compliment the long-established Otley Victorian Christmas Street Fayre, which is this year on Sunday December 4.

He said: “I can promise everyone who attends a night of frolics, revels and some fantastic traditional winter songs, some with a vintage, others with a more contemporary feel.”

The audience are encouraged to join in the spirit of the event and come dressed in their best Victorian finery.

Gary began his 25-year musical career in Keighley bands Chaos, The Big Bang and Hollow Horse.

In 2010 he released his debut solo CD, Boppin’ With Kropotkin, and his latest album Mo Fe Lo Le is due to be released next year.

He has built a strong reputation on the folk circuit, particularly within the political protest movement.

He has played Leon Rossellson, Roy Bailey, Atilla the Stockbroker, Billy Bragg, The Levellers and The Men They Couldn’t Hang.

Bradford folk and acoustic singer Bella Gaffney offers distinctive guitar playing and powerful vocals on both self-penned tracks and unique versions of traditional songs.

She started her acoustic music career at the Topic Folk Club, going on to play folk festivals and performing with English folk band Bric-a-Brac.

The Jon Palmer Acoustic Band is a high-energy six-piece folk, roots and rock ‘n’ roll combo from Otley described as a cross between The Pogues and The Oyster Band.

Yan Tan Tether is a female close harmony folk trio from Otley who specialise in beautiful acapella arrangements of traditional and modern folk songs.

The Victorian Folk Extravaganza runs from 8pm to 11pm. Tickets cost £10 advance, £12 on the door.
