KEIGHLEY soul music fans are in for a treat on New Year’s Eve at the popular annual Okeh Cokey.

For the first time ever a live band will perform during the dance night hosted by Keighley Okeh Soul Club on December 31 at the town’s Victoria Hall.

And not just any band, but the reformed line-up of Soulfish, one of the most popular groups to perform in Keighley over the last couple of decades.

Now entitled Soul Train, the band will launch themselves as a full 11-piece outfit in the hope of becoming one of the country’s leading soul tribute acts.

Soul Train has been put together by original Soulfish members Gary Marshall, Pete Foxon and Phil Swale and will again perform classic soul and Motown hits.

Pete said the band had been working since July on an energetic set of classic soul and Motown hits, a promotional video and demo tracks.

He said: “I'm so excited that the band has reformed and decided to get back out on the circuit.

“We’ve got a fantastic line up of musicians and singers who have shown true dedication and commitment which has enabled us to produce a high standard of quality music and performance.”

Gary, Phil and Pete remained good friends after Soulfish folded ten years ago, playing separately in successful bands then reuniting as part of rockabilly band the 59 Sound.

They also performed together with Motown act Sister Act, where they found Soul Train’s lead female vocalist Charlotte Jones and saxophonist Bob Howell.

The quintet performed at the Beatherder Festival in 2015 under the name Pete Foxon’s Soul Train, and began auditioning musicians and singers.

Members include frontman Mark Owens, former singer with Night Patrol, backing singers Rosa Sargent, Natalie Rose and Sapphira Stead.

The horn section includes Tony Jones, the trumpeter from legendary late 80s Keighley band Thomas J and the Gangsters of Soul, and trombone player Howard Morgan.

Okeh Soul Club founder Gary Greenwood said: "We don't normally put on live bands but having seen and heard what Soul Train are about, we thought it would be fantastic idea to host the band.

“The event is set to be a spectacular lively evening with reputable DJs to include Gary Chatburn, Alex and John Sims, Steve Burke and Lodgie.”
