A WORLD-renowned blues musician has chosen Keighley as just one of four locations to play during his latest UK tour.

Former Jethro Tull musician Martin Barre has toured the world incessantly since 2013 and is soon to fly to the USA for another lengthy series of shows.

He agreed to play an intimate live show at Keighley Blues Live because he heard about the appreciative reputation of Keighley music fans.

A Keighley Blues Live spokesman this week raved about the “true icon of rock music”.

He said: “Martin Barre was the lead guitarist of Jethro Tull from 1969 until Ian Anderson ‘retired’ the band in 2012 and played a huge role in their success with more than 60 million albums sold worldwide.

“His guitar playing earned him respect and recognition around the globe with the solo from the iconic Tull song Aqualung being voted 25th greatest of all time in the USA and 20th greatest of all time in UK.

“With Jethro Tull representing an important part of classic rock history, immediately upon the demise of the band !Martin put together his own outfit to play “classic” tracks from the Jethro Tull catalogue, a sprinkling of blues and a good helping of his original material.

“Completing the band, vocalist/guitarist Dan Crisp supplies stunning vocal interpretations of the Tull back catalogue.

“Honourable mentions too for Alan Thomson (who spent many years in John Martyn’s band) on bass and occasional mandolin and the solid, accomplished percussion of the redoubtable George Lindsay on drums.

Outside Jethro Tull, Martin has worked with artists such as Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Jo Bonamassa and Chris Thompson. He has also shared the stage with such legends as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
