KATHRYN Roberts and Sean Lakeman will play Barnoldswick on Thursday October 5 to support their new eight-track EP.

The folk duo will perform songs from Saved For A Rainy Day in the village’s Music and Arts Centre from 7.30pm.

The duo said the CD was a labour of love for the fans.

They said: “Over the last few years there have been several cover songs we have performed live and never got round to recording, along with a couple of our own originals that didn’t ‘fit’ with our previous releases.

“These have often been requested on CD and, subsequently, Saved For A Rainy Day has become a limited edition of rarities.”

The concert will also feature previews of new material due to feature on the husband-and-wife duo’s next full album.

Kathryn and Sean were last year again voted Best Duo at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and followed up their success with concerts in Spain and India.

A spokesman said the couple’s intimacy and strength of passion on stage had won them many fans and an enviable reputation as what fRoots called ‘songwriters par excellence’.

The duo’s original songs cover such subjects as wicked mermaids, Norwegian legends, and a lonely whale.
