GROOVY Happening has reached another milestone by raising £28,000 for Manorlands.

Organisers of Haworth’s monthly live music night have no intention of stopping as they prepare for another night of super sounds.

Hitting the stage on Saturday, April 7 will be Ruby Stone Sound who perform around North and West Yorkshire.

A band spokesman said: “We always love to come back to Groovy Happening where we are always guaranteed a welcoming and enthusiastic audience. The Groovy gigs are always great fun and we usually like to do something a little different each time we play here.

“So, for April’s gig, we welcome the return of previous drummer Tim Gilroy who will play alongside Martin Henderson, who replaced Tim on drums last year, and together they will be providing some truly amazing percussion and funky beats to go with even more new groovy tunes .”

The Bingley band 69 are returning to Groovy after their successful debut at the club last year, with their hard rock sound of 1969.

Although the band includes a former member of Love Affair, a band that outsold The Beatles in 1969, the audience is warned not to expect similarities to poppy Love Affair hits like Everlasting Love.

The 69ers, Mick Jackson, Dave Johnson and Alastair Harnby, have a sound that has been forged and chiselled by over 40 years’ musicianship.

Groovy spokesman Ann Wiles said: “It is precision drumming, driving-yet-melodic bass riffs and hard-edged cutting guitar, with observational lyrics and poignant vocals. Many have found 69’s sound reminiscent of Pink Floyd, Stone Roses, the Byrds, Muse, and late Beatles, yet they have very much their own retro rock sound.”

Completing the bill are RockSalt Acoustic, made up of Siân Levy (vocals), Tony Levy (guitar and vocals) and Laurie Reader (bass and vocals).

Ann said: “They also perform in other musical entities and have each been gigging for several decades. They recently relaunched RockSalt Acoustic after an eight-year hiatus, and provide an eclectic mix of quality acoustic music with three-part vocal harmonies.

“RockSalt play some covers and some original music and promise an entertaining performance with fun, humour, banter and choruses!”

Completing the live line-up will be Lat Vianson, a Halifax-based singer-songwriter who has spent over 40 years developing an “entirely unique” guitar style.

Groovy Happening is at the Parkside Club, Butt Lane, Haworth, from 7.30pm. Admission £3.

Ann added: “Thanks to the bands, the audience, Parkside Social Club and the volunteer helpers for making Groovy Happening a successful fundraising event and a really good night out!”
