Cats – Leeds Grand

THE classic production of Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber has been thrilling audiences young and old since 1981 and is still as enjoyable today as it was then.

The story of Cats is based around one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite books Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats written by TS Eliot.

Lloyd Webber adapted the poems from the book into music, and cats lit up the stage with breathtaking choreography from the full cast.

The stage was very well set making full use of effects with flashes of lights, smoke and a wonderful magic show by Mr Mistoffelees, Shiv Rabheru, who provided a fantastic dance for the very enjoyable song Mr Mistoffelees.

Rum Rum Tugger (Marcquelle Ward) put a modern spin on the show with a rap and got the audience joining in with clapping to the beat.

The show stopping moment was when Grizabella, Marianne Benedict, sang Memory – what an amazingly wonderful voice – and she certainly received the loudest cheer at the end.

This is a show not to be missed.
