Veteran Keighley drummer Steve Riley continues to make music of a quality far above the average. The Gothic Rock of Riley’s current and productive band – this is their third album in four years, all in ascending degrees of quality – is worthy of audiences bigger than Keighley can offer. That possibly explains Exoterik’s lack of live performances within the town.
The keyboard on opener Reason To Live is reminiscent of Tubeway Army but everything else is firmly within the realms of Lacuna Coil or Evanescence. Anneka Latta’s haunting vocals to the fore backed by heavy bass and lead guitar licks courtesy of Tom Fay and Darren Townes.
Add to the mix lyrics that deal with unhappy endings and condescending manners and the result is something gloriously Goth.
