We first came across Marklund last year when she co-wrote Postcard Killers with the mega-selling James Patterson.
Back in her native Sweden she is more renowned for the gritty and gripping crime series featuring reporter Annika Bengton.
The latest novel to receive a welcome English paperback release is Vanished, a dark and engrossing tale to rank alongside Jo Nesbo and our own Val McDermid and Mark Billingham. Annika interviews a woman claiming to be the spokesman of Paradise, an organisation that creates new identities for women and children on the run.
She befriends a woman who is on the run -- following the murder of two Balkan smugglers -- and puts her in touch with Paradise.
Annika soon realises she made him a fatal mistake -- putting fulminant herself in grave danger.
