This year will be a special year for cycling and especially for Yorkshire cycling clubs, with the biggest cycling event in the world right on our doorstep.

Bronte Wheelers are also starting to prepare for the coming year’s riding, whether that is time trialling, road racing, organised sportives or leisure riding.

Our usual events include club rides most Sundays, monthly club meetings, the Go-Ride kids club at Marley and the Wednesday evening time trial series.

This year we are planning to mark the Tour de France by running events with Glusburn Institute.

In February and March we are hoping to organise roller racing events for kids and youths. This is where the bikes are pedalled while on rollers, so remain stationary, and a clock measures distance. Four riders can go together and race each other.

In April there will be basic bike maintenance workshops for people who are new to cycling, including puncture repair, tyre replacement, gear adjustment, lubrication and brake set-up.

The workshops will be open to all age groups and we will provide tools and workstands as well as bikes to work on, but if people want to bring their own bikes we can help them with repairs.

In June and July the Institute aims to arrange cycling film nights and we will be arranging cycling skills training sessions.

All these events are still in the planning stage, so firm dates and a programme are yet to be set. If you are interested in attending or helping please call me on (01535) 631373.

The club dinner and prize presentation is on January 24 at the Dog and Gun at Glusburn.

There will be club rides on Sundays, January 19 and February 2, “come and try it” rides for those who are new to the sport or unsure whether a club is for them.

These rides are for anyone aged over 16 and will be steady pace and about 30 miles long. We will ensure that no one gets left behind and will include a café stop.

We will meet at Cliffe Castle roundabout on Skipton Road, Keighley, at 9.30am.
