FIVE YEARS ago, Keighley Art Club moved its meetings to Keighley Healthy Living’s premises, at the same time increasing its membership by 20.

Other people have gone on to set up their own art groups, helping to increase the learning processes in art.

We previously met in Keighley College and ex-secretary Bryan Miller had the challenge of finding central, comfortable and clean rooms, or to fold the club.

Luckily Bev Dickinson, the coordinator of Keighley Healthy Living, supplied the Cavendish Room at a competitive rate.

This building is on Scott Street, which is behind Keighley Library. The logo on the property is KHL in a lime green background. A disabled ramp aids access if required.

This community organisation continues to grow and support groups and service providers. Bev can be contacted for enquiries on 01535 677177, or to set up new events.

Meeting rooms and a kitchen for healthy cooking are available for numerous activities. Some of these are breastfeeding, young parents’ advice, art and craft groups, Parkinson’s, tranquillity support, exercise and walking groups, Jamie’s Ministry of Food, cooking, Italians, weight, Alzheimer’s and luncheon clubs.

Our annual art exhibition with Bingley Art Club runs from January 24 to mid April and is underway. We hope you can visit Cliffe Castle Museum, which has been described as the jewel in Keighley’s crown.

The museum is more stunning after work was completed two years ago.

The exhibition is placed around the upstairs gallery which is reached via the impressive main staircase and following the corridor between cabinet-based collections, then through double doors to the gallery.

We continue to rotate our year-round exhibitions in the Picture House lounge and in the Civic Centre cafe. Both are in on North Street and on the ground floor.

We hope to change the paintings in the cinema in February. The manager, Bob James, welcomes passers-by for refreshments at any time and says he has started a Monday matinee, which should be a popular move.

New release films vary from children’s films to those of interest to adults. The studios are warm and comfortable and the big screens electrify the films, so you can see your favourites magnified.

Artistic tip of the month is from Christine Wrathall of Long Lee. In order to create twigs on trees with a fine finish, drop watercolour paint onto the paper and gently blow the paint through a straw.

Visitors are welcome to our February 11 work-along with Sandy who will show us how to produce wax resist work. Sandy will provide materials, but normally we bring our own as we all produce different media.

February 4 sees Lorraine Green and February 25 sees Geoff Mitchell, leading the session or providing photographs for us to paint.
