MARCH rapidly draws to a close and yet until recently it was difficult to look past the big release of the month, Beauty and the Beast (PG).

In order to book this film on day one we had to enter into accords, a set of conditions we must meet to be allowed to have the film on release day.

This is not usual for a big release but in this case it involved us agreeing to show the film for all shows in our largest screen for two weeks, impacting somewhat on us booking new films.

Opening weekend for Beauty has come and gone and what a weekend!

You kept us on our toes with many of you taking advantage of the evening shows as well as the Saturday, Sunday and Monday matinees of Beauty.

Monday matinees have been particularly strong of late and it’s very reassuring seeing the same faces week after week coming to enjoy not just the films but also the complementary cup of tea and biscuits on offer!

There are no restrictions on attendance and we try to keep a diverse array of films week to week to tempt in all who might be free at 2pm on Mondays.

As the days lengthen and the high-drama releases thin out towards the summer we do tend to wind the matinees down, but if the attendance remains positive then we’ll keep scheduling them!

As I write this the plan for Monday March 27 is to screen Beast at 2pm alongside Viceroy’s House (subject to us being able to book it), but best to check with us before you travel on the day by calling 01535 602561.

It was wonderful to see so many of you turn out for Oscar winner Arrival on Sunday March 19, as Keighley Film Club screening – a brilliant attendance given how long the film’s been out!

There are no restrictions on attending Film Club but great benefits if you become a member including reduced entry price for adults (ages 15 to 59) for all Keighley Picture House content and free screenings for concessions (birth to 14 or 60-plus).

The next Keighley Film Club screening is on April 16 and is The Light Between Oceans (12a), beginning at 5.35pm. Why not ask a red-shirted film club volunteer about membership, ask us at the kiosk next time you’re in?

Lastly, there are lots of fresh releases coming up for Easter time including Smurfs Lost Village on March 30, Boss Baby and Peppa Pig on April 7, plus Fast & Furious 8 on April 14 and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on April 28.

After Easter we’re looking at the logistics of offering regular Parent And Toddler-style screenings probably on a Monday lunchtime.

There’s a lot to consider here: we want to offer an attractive ticket offer and friendly-style environment in the auditorium but can’t do anything that impacts negatively on the weekend matinees.

This is a work in progress but you can expect an update in due course!
