THE TEN items from Keighley Art Club supporting the Keighley Library poetry-based exhibition are now in the library.

They are on display alongside other items sent by local artists to library staff member Dionne Hood.

Keighley Art Club and Bingley Art Society members are now exhibiting work at Cliffe Castle Museum until mid-December.

Call 01535 669914 in the mornings or 01535 663450 for enquiries about the exhibition.

Visitors to Cliffe Castle can also visit the conservatory to see plans for improving the museum’s grounds. It will be at least two years before we have another exhibition.

Keighley Art Club’s theme nights next month will be led by members. Those interested are welcome to visit any of the Wednesday painting sessions, which run at Keighley Healthy Living, behind the library, from 7pm to 9pm.

On November 4 the theme is Gunpowder Plot with Tony Pratt, there will be a mystery challenge with John Wyeth on November 11, painting from photographs with Tracy Holmes on November 18, then on November 25 centre Bateman will show us how to paint flowers in encaustic wax.

You couldn’t ask for more variety than that, surely? We hope to see visitors on those nights.

I would like to explain something about our members: actually, all of them have improved since I joined.

Jeanette Bray joined four years ago as a novice and has taken part in most of our evenings since. She has tried various media and enjoys painting pets and celebrities in pastel.

She set up our Facebook page and some of her items are posted there.

It is not easy to teach art, and some people study for years at colleges. This means that coming to a club like Keighley Art Club helps us just enjoy the painting process or to pick up tips.

We have different styles by interpreting colours and subjects as we see and feel at the time. We welcome different ways of creating artwork.

Some of our group decide to find more challenges by attending demonstrators’ workshops in their studios.

Pat Konrad, Malcolm Sharrock and Jeanette Bray visit Cath Ingles for customer training. Tony Pratt has joined a group in Pool for Chinese painting.

We are not specialists – we simply hope to encourage you at whatever level you are. Some members also attend Riddlesden Art Club on Thursdays or Long Lee and Thwaites Brow Art Group on Tuesdays and Fridays.

From time to time I hope to give a few words on artists who were born, lived or trained in art in Keighley.

The town had an important art college in the past, which produced artists, art teachers and community organisers. They may not have been club members, but I feel all should be recognised in some way.

Once a year we have a life drawing evening. The latest will be on Tuesday next week. Visitors are welcome by appointment only, and should call 01535 669914. The cost is £4.
