Our dedicated, enthusiastic and talented staff ensure that the potential of all learners is unlocked, whatever their talents, by focusing on maximising achievement within a caring and supportive culture that values everyone, nurtures the individual and fosters social cohesion.
- Activities:
- We encourage all students to continue in education and training beyond the age of 16, to become an active member of the Post 16 school community. Our mission at Post 16 is to ensure that students emerge not only as well qualified students able to progress to University or professional employment but also as mature adults ready to take on their responsibilities in society. We aim to produce, within a caring atmosphere, well rounded individuals with the highest levels of achievement, so that Sixth Formers leaving Thornton Grammar are fully equipped to meet with confidence the ever changing demands of the modern world.
- Facilities:
- Thornton Grammar School is proud of its exceptional status as a specialist school with three specialisms – in Sport, Science and Applied Learning. These accolades have enabled the school to invest in high quality facilities and enhanced staffing. They have also contributed to the development of a culture in which every member of the school community is committed to excellence: excellence for all and excellence from all. Sports College status has enabled us to take the very best attitudes associated with Sport, such as high personal standards, determination and teamwork, and apply them across the school. Similarly, the spirit of enquiry that is at the heart of Science education informs the approach to learning in all areas, while the influence of the Applied Learning College ensures that all we do helps to prepare our young people for the world of work. At Post 16 we offer a full and varied range of GCE Advanced Level and Applied Advanced Level subjects, including BTEC and OCR Nationals which allow students the opportunity to build on their Year 11 success and realise their full potential. Our courses are delivered by a team of dedicated and committed staff employing a rich blend of traditional and innovative teaching approaches, using the very latest educational facilities, so that our students are fully engaged and motivated. The school is very proud of its long tradition of achievement at Post-16. Results are consistently among the best in Bradford with most students gaining admittance to the University, training course or employment of their choice, with a number of applying successfully for places at Oxford and Cambridge each year.
