Plaques stolen from Labour headquarters
The theft of two brass plaques from the Labour Party's Keighley headquarters was "politically motivated", the town's MP has claimed.
Ann Cryer said the plaques, one of which was unveiled in memory of her late husband in 1995, were taken from outside the property's front door last Thursday night.
"One of them just said Keighley Labour Party', and had been there many years," she said.
"But the second one, which read Bob Cryer House', was a memorial to my husband and was unveiled by Dennis Skinner."
She said she believed the crime was political in nature, because other, more valuable brass plaques on nearby properties in Devonshire Street had not been touched.
"It's very hurtful and such a shame, but I suppose that's the way the world is at the moment," she said. "The place where the plaques were now looks very scruffy.
"It's possible someone could even have seen the person that did it, but just thought they were a workman doing a job."
She appealed to whoever was responsible for stealing the plaques to return them.
Bob Cryer was the Labour MP for Keighley from 1974-83 and was also MP for Bradford South from 1987 until his death in a road accident in 1994.
Responding to the news of the stolen plaques, Dennis Skinner, who has been MP for Bolsover since 1970, described the crime as "terrible".
He spent several years sitting next to his friend and colleague in the House of Commons.
A spokesman for Keighley police confirmed the theft was under investigation.

Hate to say it but...
If Labour actually supported the police & added more officers their local HQ would not have suffered the same fate that has hit so many people in Keighley. Crime!!!
Yes its all political. The tories are laughing as we speak....

Mainly political
Sometimes sensible
Rarely humorous
Now in bad taste
Sorry Chris but to me your comments about someone who has passed on seems an insult.

However I was right it was a message wasn't it with two very poor Labour reps getting the heave - ho.
youv'e heard the saying "they would be turning in their graves" well sometimes life has a way of repaying those who abuse things at the expense of others.

Comments purely based on my belief that some people don't have the sense of decency to avoid using sick comments.
I never seem to read comments from certain contributors making regarding positive articles.
Continuous negative comments become tiresome to most people - have a look at the T&A comments sometime to see what I mean.

Quote. I never seem to read comments from certain contributors making regarding positive articles.
That's life I am afraid but then you would not know what positive achievements have come out of negative ones seeing as you are not interested in politics.

I never claimed to be uninterested in politics - just "party politics".
I believe that elected representivies should only act on the interests of those who selected them - not what they are instructed to do so by those in higher up party positions.
Parish and town councillors should be immune from influence by their political "bosses".
And my comment "I never seem to read comments from certain contributors regarding positive articles" means that some people only seem to latch on to negative stories.
When you look down the list of stories each week I could be a wealthy man by putting money on which ones will draw the most comments.
