MP wants action plan for tourists

A lack of imagination from tourist firms is depriving Keighley district of the visitor numbers it deserves, according to the town's MP.

Speaking at Westminster, Ann Cryer said such businesses automatically direct people to places like York, which is already crowded with visitors.

She said: "In West Yorkshire we have lots of interesting places that people can visit, in both the natural and the built environment.

"Unfortunately, however, not many people visit them because the tourist boards concentrate on areas such as York, to the detriment of other towns.

"I often feel that York is strangled by a surfeit of visitors.

"Why not spread those visitors into areas such as Halifax - with Piece Hall yard - and Keighley, which has the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, the Brontë Parsonage Museum and the wonderful East Riddlesden Hall?

"The natural environment in the area - especially spreading over to the Calder Valley - is wonderful."

Maybe Ann should sell her "second home" in london and make a donation herself??

Maybe Ann shouldn't buy a plasma T.V this year around and help out instead??

Sounds like a great idea. We are planning a trip there and it is difficult to find any real local information - the high spots, like York etc are all there but how about Pately Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire Moors etc etc
