Cougars ready for Rochdale backlash
On the coat-tails of a crushing 58-12 victory against London Skolars last Sunday, the Keighley Cougars will be looking for some more Cougar Park magic against one of the pre-season favourites, Rochdale, on Sunday.
While the Cougars are riding high in second place in National League Two with a 5-1 record, Rochdale, who were relegated from National League One last year, are struggling with a 2-3 record in their new division.
While Rochdale boss Bobby Golden was targeting a top three finish, Keighley Cougars' head coach said: "Anybody is capable of beating anybody on their day," as proved by Hunslet getting their first win (35-28) of the season last week against Rochdale.
Eaton said: "We're probably going to get the backlash from that. Rochdale are a very physical team. They certainly try to get amongst you. It's going to be a tough game."
But if Keighley are firing on all cylinders like they did against London on Sunday, Rochdale could be in trouble.
Eaton said: "We we're pretty dominating. We should have scored more points. After we got our first try, it was one-way traffic. There was so much support of the men with the ball. We scored some fantastic tries, a couple had gone through ten or 11 pairs of hands."
Although the Cougars won, it was at a cost as in-form Gavin Duffy broke his fibula and will miss at least eight weeks.
Eaton said: We're going to miss him. He was nominated in the National League Two Team of the Month and has made a successful transition from full back to the wing."
He could be replaced on Sunday by James Hutchinson or Sam Gardner, who is back in training after an injury.
