Residents to have say on parking patrols

Groups across Keighley could help decide the priorities of car parking patrols in their neighbourhoods.

Councillors have requested local accountability for the new-style attendants due to be employed by Bradford Council.

Residents and organisations in each part of Keighley could influence where the officers patrol.

The civil enforcement patrols will begin after the council takes over the policing of on-street parking on July 21.

Officers will be able to give £50 and £70 spot fines for a wide range of new parking offences.

Keighley Area Committee members want to link the work of parking attendants with their new Keighley ward-based Neighbourhood Development Framework.

The framework calls for new committees covering each neighbourhood, bringing together politicians, residents and public agencies.

Each committee will identify the most important issues in the area, influencing the work of agencies like the police and Bradford Council.
