Camper is intent on 24 hours of prayers
 |
| Salvation Army Captain Alison Gardner, who will be camping in the church during the 24-hour prayer week |
Keighley's Salvation Army leader has pledged to camp inside the group's High Street headquarters for a week, to allow people to drop-in and "share a prayer".
Captain Alison Gardner said her planned stay in a ten-berth tent would highlight the 24/7 Prayer Week which starts tomorrow.
She said: "There are so many ways to pray and speak to God and we thought it would be fantastic to hold a prayer camp right here in our worship hall - that way we're closer to the Holy Spirit.
"I'd rather not think of it as cheating but more of a safe way to be accessible 24/7 whenever people feel the need to come along and share some quality prayer time.
"I'm hoping people from the other church denominations in the town will bring their tents too and share in the experience."
Salvation Army press officer Wayne Coles added: "The prayer week is about encouraging people who perhaps don't pray, or want to consider different ways to pray, to find out more."
He said prayer could take many different forms, including meditation, liturgy and works of literature.
From 6pm tomorrow until 6pm on May 30 anyone can book a one or two-hour slot in the hall, or just drop in for prayer requests or a cup of tea.
Various events are planned over the week, including a fasting day on Saturday, a quiet day on Tuesday and a children's activity day on Wednesday.
