The Bishop of Bradford will this Sunday re-dedicate a stained-glass window that commemorates fallen soldiers.
The Rt Rev Nick Baines will lead a service attended by fellow clergy, civic dignitaries and former service people.
The window at All Saints’ Church in Highfield Lane, created in 1917, is believed to be Keighley's earliest war memorial. It depicts a fallen soldier next to the crucified Jesus, surrounded by images of First World War battles.
The window was created to honour church members who volunteered to fight in the First World War.
The window is based on an iconic religious image of the First World War, The Great Sacrifice by James Clark.
The artist came to Keighley to recreate his 1914 picture on the window, adding elements from The Battle of Arras and the Gallipoli campaign. The Rev Dr Jonathan Pritchard, the priest at All Saints (pictured by the window), said the picture was remarkable because it was one of only two windows in the world painted by Clark.
The Bishop of Bradford will bless and re-dedicate the window during the service on Sunday at 4pm. Invited guests include the Keighley town mayor and former members of the congregation.
