Last Saturday this 104 year old local choir, of international status gave a concert at St. James’ Church.
As always this mighty choir of 50 men gave sterling performances of an amazing variety of music. Anne Mott accompanied the choir on piano while Alan Clark conducted.
There were breath-taking songs – not always in English! We had praise items, pop, folk, film, show music and choral standards.
The choir featured its own soloists, vocal, violin and guitar, and Anne with some great piano cameo parts. There was plenty of humour creating a real feel good atmosphere.
Regrettably and inexplicably the church was only half full. A real treat for those there and sad loss for who were not.
The choir made it known it is always recruiting. Currently the full complement is 80. It rehearses on Monday evenings at Steeton Methodist Church at 7.30pm. The recruiting officer is Ken Wardel on 01943 817432.
Jens Hislop.
