Outline plans to build up to 135 houses on a green-field site in Keighley have been submitted to Bradford Council.

Consultancy firm Arup has put forward the application for the field at High Shann, off Shann Lane.

The firm previously held a public consultation event in Keighley Civic Centre to explain the proposals.

In a written report accompanying the application, Arup associate, Nicole Harrison, states 15 per cent of the new homes will be affordable housing.

She says there will be a financial contribution made to support education provision and highway improvement works carried out in Shann Lane.

Arup adds the housing development will incorporate a “spine road” through the site, capable of handling public transport.

It says an existing right of way on the property will be retained and enhanced.

The application was received by Bradford planners on Monday, and has already aroused objections from people living in the area.

One letter opposing the scheme warns: “The junction of Shann Lane and Spring Gardens Lane is currently extremely hazardous during peak traffic times. Cars currently back up the hill and cause congestion.

“This junction does not cope with the existing traffic volumes present, so how would it cope with any projected increase?”
