Last Sunday about 50 people assembled in Holden Park at Oakworth to witness the planting of a tree in memory of Allan Rhodes, former mayor of Keighley, founder member of Keighley in Bloom and supporter of the many small groups in Oakworth.
Besides his wife, family and friends, there were many town and district councillors and representatives from the Friends of Holden Park, another group that Allan was instrumental in setting up.
A short eulogy was said by the present mayor, George Metcalf, and prayers of dedication were said by the Reverend Dr Jonathan Pritchard, vicar of All Saints Church, Keighley, who was a friend and admirer.
The tree, a silver birch, a favourite of Allan’s, was planted in an area overlooking the bowling green.
