A teenage girl who fractured a man’s eye socket with a single punch has been spared jail.

Robyn Smith, 19, was told by a judge she was being given “one last chance” to control her temper after Bradford Crown Court heard how she attacked friend Sam Seawood during a booze-fuelled row.

Handing her a two-year-community order for causing grievous bodily harm, Recorder Jonathan Sandiford said: “You are only 19 years of age and you have already amassed a criminal record which has some worrying features about your temper.”

Alex Menary, prosecuting, told the court Smith had been drinking with Mr Seawood at a pub in Sutton before going to a friend’s house to continue the session on February 2.

“At about 10pm, Mr Seawood said he was going to leave but the defendant became aggressive. At that point she delivered a single punch, causing an injury to his eye.”

The court heard police officers on patrol spotted Mr Seawood walking to Skipton with a “very bruised and red eye”, which he was unable to open. He was taken to Airedale Hospital, before being transferred to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he was treated for a fracture to his eye socket.

When interviewed, Smith, of Collinge Road in Cowling, said she had been angry Mr Seawood had “used them” for alcohol and left when the drink ran out.

James Heyworth, mitigating, said: “She accepts and has been frank that she has difficulty controlling her emotions.”

Recorder Sandiford sentenced Smith to a two-year community order with 100 hours’ unpaid work and an anger management course.
