Airedale Shopping Centre is giving Keighley people a chance to vote for the local charity they believe the centre should support during 2013.

For the past two years, the shopping centre has backed Sue Ryder Manorlands, after the good cause won previous Charity of the Year contests.

Airedale’s staff have collected cash for the hospice by taking part in charity runs, bike rides and various other fundraising events.

Each Christmas the shopping centre also collects money from generous locals for the charity via its Wishing Well, Giving Tree and gift wrapping service.

Andrew Wood, of Manorlands, said: “Being the chosen charity of the Airedale Shopping Centre is fantastic for us.

“They’ve raised a huge amount of funds during the past year, which makes a massive difference for the people we care for.

“In addition, the shopping centre promotes our events and our staff get involved in their events, which is an added boost.”

Steve Seymour, Airedale Centre manager, said: “2012 has been a fantastic year working with everyone at Manorlands. We’ve had a great time helping the hospice provide essential services to patients and their families.”

As 2012 draws to an end, the shopping centre’s managers have teamed up with the Keighley News to ask for the public’s help to select a deserving cause for next year.

This would either be a charity or a specific project, such as collecting money to revamp a local community centre.

Keighley News editor Richard Parker said: “We’re delighted to help promote this superb charity venture.

“Times are hard for everyone in the current economic climate, so don’t miss out on the chance to give your chosen cause a much-needed financial boost.”

Special coupons will be printed in next week’s edition to nominate your favourite local cause or charity. Another coupon will be printed the following week, followed by the chance to vote by text for the overall winner, which will be announced in the New Year.
