Cullingworth youngster Devon shows she has got the talent
Meet the 11-year-old who left the audience at the Cullingworth’s Got Talent contest spellbound.
Devon Wood took the top prize after wowing both audience and judges at last week’s contest.
She competed against fellow pupils of Cullingworth Primary School and students of the village’s secondary school Parkside.
Devon, from Denholme, even beat Wrong Direction, made up of teachers from Parkside School.
Judges sang Devon’s praises after her solo performance and urged her to try for Britain’s Got Talent or X-Factor.
Second prize at Cullingworth’s Got Talent went to five girls from the Diamond Freestyle Dance School, based in Cullingworth.
Third prize went to Nigel Linje, from Cullingworth Primary School, with a hip-hop routine.
The nine competitors, who performed at Parkside’s theatre, included choirs, singers, musicians and a performing lurcher.
Following the performances there was a solo spot by singer-songwriter and former Parkside student Will Stead.
The competition was organised by Philip Logan, head of year 13 at Parkside, to showcase the work of both schools to a wider audience.
David Miller, the acting head of Cullingworth Primary School, said: “It was lovely to see some of the talents in both schools.”
