Couple rescued in Denholme fire drama

A man and woman have been rescued from a flat fire in Denholme.
The couple, believed to be in their 50s, woke to find flames in their living room and dialled 999.
It happened in a ground floor property in Main Road just after 9.30pm yesterday.
They stayed in their bedroom until firefighters from nearby Illingworth and Fairweather Green stations arrived to put out the blaze and lead them to safety.
A fire investigation is now underway.
