Keep Calm and Play Safe is message from health chief to people in Keighley district

People across Airedale are being advised to cover up this winter – and not just with warm clothes.
The famous World War II Ministry of Information phrase “Keep Calm and Carry On” is being tweaked as part of a campaign to warn people of the dangers of unprotected sex at this time of year when alcohol, parties and high spirits can sometimes lead to regrettable decisions.
Condoms displaying phrases like “Keep Calm and Cover Up” and “Keep Calm and Play Safe” have been distributed to health centres, with posters sent to schools, GPs and youth clubs.
Liz Ward, chlamydia screening programme co-ordinator for Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, said: “The design is current, you see it everywhere. We showed a group of young people the design and they all liked it.
“A lot of the services people rely on are shut at this time of year, so it is important people get the message and protect themselves.”
The posters are the first produced by the trust to feature QR codes which people can scan with their smartphones to get a website link where they can book a chlamydia screening in seconds.
The district’s contraceptive and sexual health clinics are held at locations including Keighley Health Centre. They are closed on New Year’s Day. For more details visit bradford.nhs.uk.
