Make your resolution to donate blood
10:00am Monday 31st December 2012 in News
People are being urged to make a special New Year’s resolution – to give blood.
The plea follows a dramatic decline in the number of younger donors signing up.
A series of donor sessions is being held across the region next month, including two at Victoria Hall in Keighley on January 11, from 2.15pm to 3.45pm and 4.45pm to 7.30pm.
Donna Batty, of NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “New Year’s resolutions have become a bit cliche over the past few years, as people always set themselves up for big challenges they are unable to complete.
“Our challenge is a simple one, plus we can guarantee donors a warm welcome, hot cup of tea and a biscuit to help boost their sense of achievement, not to mention the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping sick and injured people in local hospitals with each and every donation they make.”
Anyone aged 17 to 65, weighing more than 50kg and in general good health could become a donor.
