Canon in tribute to ‘insightful’ clergyman

A clergyman who loved the outdoors and went trekking in Nepal in his 70s has died aged 96.

Canon Christopher Martineau, who passed away last month, spent part of his retirement living in Keighley.

He was rector at Holy Trinity Church in Skipton from 1965 to 1983 until he retired to a home in Utley.

He then moved to Herefordshire with his wife, Margaret.

The current rector, Canon Adrian Botwright, said: “Christopher was a holy man – a man of deep spirituality, prayerfulness and remarkable insightfulness.

“He remained active until very recently, taking services and writing poetry.”
