Charity auctions of pork pies and fodder hay donated by regional butchers and farmers have netted £1,662 for Manorlands hospice.

They were sold at the Christmas primestock shows and sales and Great Northern Pork Pie Compet-ition at Skipton Auction Mart.

Jeremy Eaton, general manager of the auction mart, presented the proceeds to Manorlands fundraiser Rachel Cunningham at Farmhouse Fare in Skipton. This business beat off strong competition to win the champion pork pie trophy for the third year in succession.

The charity auctions have raised more than £5,000 for Manorlands during the past four years.

Mr Eaton thanked all farmers and butchers for their continuing support of the annual fundraiser. As well as donating their competition entries, participants from Yorkshire and Lancashire brought along additional pies for auction.

Ms Cunningham said: “We’re extremely grateful to all involved for their support and generosity.”

This year’s event will take place on December 1.
