Haworth over-50s club saved from closure threat

The future of Haworth’s Not Over The Hill Yet! club is now more secure following recent appeals for help.

Parkside Social Club has agreed to let club members continue to meet every Thursday from noon until 4pm.

The social club for over 50s was threatened with closure following the loss of a Bradford Council grant.

The age range was widened and members were urged to use the Parkside bar to help cover costs of providing the venue.

NOTHY! founder Shona Grange said the group proved that older people were not a burden on the state.

She said: “We believe that age brings about wisdom, knowledge and skills which can be put to good use.

“Using the skills to support one another means that we all save money in the long run, as it keeps people active, creates better self-esteem and avoids having to pay for services.”

Admission to NOTHY! is free, the bar is open and people are asked to take food for a shared lunch.
