Woman conned by bogus caller

Police have renewed their call for residents to be vigilant after a Keighley woman had money taken from her by a doorstep caller.

The latest incident happened in Thwaites Brow on Monday. It follows a separate theft in Lawkholme last month, when money was stolen by a bogus door-to-door salesman.

An Airedale and North Bradford Police spokesman said: “There are individuals willing to take advantage of vulnerable members of our community, and it is important people do not present them with an opportunity.

“If people are expecting a visit, they should check to see who it is by looking through their front door or by using a door viewer. They should only open their door when they have put the chain on.

“People should make sure they check the caller’s identification and, if they have any doubts at all about their authenticity, they should ask them to wait outside while they check with the company they claim to work for.”
