Final service is held at Wesley Place Methodist Church

Worshippers at a Keighley church have held their last service in advance of its closure.

The congregation at Wesley Place Methodist Church disbanded after an emotional carol service.

They made the difficult decision due to advancing years of a dwindling membership.

The congregation of the chapel, which is off Halifax Road at Ingrow, had dropped to about 15.

Some members, who were in their 80s or older, had attended the chapel since they were christened there. They had continued attending services despite moving to other parts of Keighley many years ago.

Most of the worshippers have now been welcomed into the congregations of other Methodist churches in the town.

Although the last service has been held at Wesley Place, the chapel has not yet officially closed.

Leaders of the Airedale Circuit of the Methodist Church will discuss the issue next month, and a final decision will be made in March at county level.
