New Civic Centre management bid

Town councillors are due to vote on a proposal to set up a new body to manage Keighley Civic Centre.

The North Street premises are currently operated by a small number of town councillors, who comprise a sub-committee of the management and staffing committee.

They cannot make group decisions, but forward recommendations to the full management and staffing committee.

Councillors have now recommended a standing committee should be established to take on the day-to-day responsibility for the civic centre and its ‘Police Experience’ attraction.

If the new body is approved, it will have a similar status to other existing town council committees. The sub-committee will then be disbanded.

The issue will be discussed at the January meeting of Keighley Town Council, which takes place in the town hall chamber at 6.30pm today.
