Vital funds approved to solve water woe at Oxenhope community centre

Worth Valley district councillors have presented £1,500 to a village community centre.
The Worth Valley Initiatives Fund cash has gone to Oxenhope Community Centre, and will help cover the costs of repairing the building’s drains.
The actual premises also require renovation, and residents have been busy raising the necessary funds.
A spokesman for Oxenhope Community Association (OCA), which runs the centre, said it was noticed last autumn drains outside the building were not functioning. On two occasions during heavy rainfall, surface water spread into the nearby play area and also onto part of Oxenhope Primary School’s yard.
A successful application for financial assistance was made to the Worth Valley Initiatives Fund, which is administered by district councillors Glen Miller, Rebecca Poulsen and Russell Brown.
OCA chairman, Tony Maw, said: “We are very grateful for the support of our local ward councillors.
“This grant will enable the centre to start work on new drains in the near future, rather than have to wait until the major refurbishment gets underway.”
Coun Miller said: “Oxenhope Community Centre is a valuable resource we wanted to support.”
