Keighley MP Kris Hopkins has pledged his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day.

Sunday’s event will mark the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp where more than 1.1 million people died.

Mr Hopkins has signed a book of commitment, placed in the Commons by the Holocaust Educational Trust.

And he pays tribute to those who perished during the Holocaust and the survivors who work tirelessly – through the educational trust’s outreach programme – to educate young people about what they endured.

He said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

“I encourage Keighley residents to mark the day and join the fight against prejudice and intolerance.”

Holocaust Educational Trust chief executive, Karen Pollock, said: “We are proud Kris is supporting Holocaust Memorial Day this year.

“It is vitally important we remember and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust – ensuring we continue to challenge all forms of hatred and bigotry.”

The memorial day will be marked with thousands of events across the country.
