Dog owners are being warned to keep their pets on leads when venturing near swollen rivers.
The alert comes after firefighters had to wade through raging waters in Silsden Beck at the weekend to rescue a golden retriever called Oliver.
Firefighters at Bingley got a call just after 8am on Sunday when Oliver’s owner called to say the dog had been carried away downstream and over a weir.
Crews lowered a ladder down the side of an 8ft wall from a nearby back garden into the beck to reach the pet, who was then helped back to land suffering from just a few bumps and grazes.
