Keighley's 10K promises to be a big success
5:00am Monday 4th March 2013 in News
Keighley’s BigK 10k is poised to be a runaway success.
About 950 people have so far entered the March 10 run and walk, in aid of Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands.
And organisers are hopeful of reaching the 1,100 capacity target.
“We’d encourage those who usually leave it until the last minute to enter to submit their entries now for fear of disappointment if we have to close registration,” said Sue Ryder regional fundraiser, Andrew Wood.
He added this year’s event, which starts and finishes at Victoria Park and follows a route around the town, had been boosted with a number of corporate and team entries. Oakbank School, Acorn Stairlifts and Keighley Amateur Boxing Club have all entered large numbers.
And under-11s can now take part, if accompanied by an adult.
Medals will be awarded to category winners and to the individuals, teams and corporate teams raising most money through sponsorship.
As the race coincides with Mother’s Day, each mum crossing the finishing line will receive a carnation.
More than 60 volunteer marshals will be on duty around the course.
The main event sponsors are Leeds City College Keighley Campus, Keighley Area Committee, White Rose Volkswagen, Convenience Hire and the Airedale Shopping Centre.
l Keighley Film Club is shooting footage celebrating the town’s BigK 10k.
The club – which has been asked by Keighley Area Committee to make the short film – is appealing for anyone taking part in the March 10 Manorlands run, who has a story to tell, to get in touch.

Keighley Film Club’s next screening is The Woman In Black (12a) in Central Hall, at 7pm tomorrow. Tickets are £3.50 for under-16s, £4 for members and £5 for day members.
