A self-confessed “monstrous and disgusting” man who raped a teaching assistant was yesterday jailed for 11 years and three months.

Bed shop owner Fiazul Islam, 31, picked up the woman as she walked home after a night out with colleagues in Keighley before raping her twice in the back of his car.

Bradford Crown Court heard he was caught by police after her mobile phone – lost during the attack – was found in his bedroom when a 15-year-old girl accused him of a separate sexual offence more than a year later. Sentencing him for two counts of rape and one of sexual activity with a child, Judge John Potter told him: “You are prepared to violate and humiliate your victims to satisfy your own wicked sexual desires.”

Sophie Drake, prosecuting, said the woman, in her 20s, shared a taxi home with colleagues after a night out at a restaurant and pub on July 21, 2010.

The court heard she was dropped off a short distance from her home after deciding to walk the rest of the way, but the next she remembered was being in the defendant’s car.

The woman was driven away from Keighley and into Bingley, where Islam parked in an isolated area.

He then raped her twice as she cried and said ‘No’, Miss Drake said.

Police were called after she arrived home distressed in the early hours, with scratches to her body.

Islam was not caught until a year later, on November 11, 2011, when a 15-year-old girl reported a sex offence against him and the woman’s phone was found at his home.

Islam, of Mannville Road, Knowle Park, Keighley, initially denied two counts of rape, claiming the woman consented to sex, but was convicted after a trial.

He pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child at a separate hearing.

The court heard he drove the girl to woodland, where he parked his car and tried to engage in sexual activity on the back seat, but she got out and ran off. Aisha Khan, mitigating, said her client, who had no previous convictions, had described himself as “monstrous and disgusting” and was sorry for his actions.

She handed the judge a letter from him, apologising to his rape victim and said: “He does accept responsibility”

Jailing him for ten years for rape, Judge Potter said: “You treated her, in her words at trial, as nothing but a piece of meat.”

He was given a consecutive 15 months for sexual activity with a child and put on the sex offenders’ register for life.
