Public consultation for Keighley special services
2:35pm Thursday 7th March 2013 in News
Services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in Keighley district are to be subject to a public consultation.
Bradford Council, alongside NHS Bradford and Airedale, the Parents’ Forum for Bradford and Airedale and the voluntary sector, are leading the initiative to review provision for those aged up to 25.
The consultation will focus on areas such as access to information, assessment processes, care and support plans and personal budgets.
Parents and carers will get an opportunity to give their feedback this month and next through an online survey, as well as at two events being staged by the Parents’ Forum for Bradford and Airedale.
The second of the events takes place on March 21 at the Sangat Community Centre in Marlborough Street, Keighley. It will run from 10am until 1pm, with a light lunch available at 12.30pm.
The consultation is taking place because the government has proposed major changes to services for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Councillor Ralph Berry, Bradford’s executive member for children’s services, said: “This will allow us to review what is working well and what needs to be done differently, and gives parents and carers the opportunity to feed back the changes they want to see locally.”
Parents’ Forum member Richard Sutton said: “The consultation gives parents and carers an opportunity to participate in the review and tell us about the services they receive.”
Contact Barnardo’s on (01274) 481183 or e-mail info@pfba.org.uk to book a place at the Sangat event.
Postal surveys will be available to parents and carers in the spring edition of the Disabled Children’s Information newsletter.
